TV Licence Supported by Fewer than One in Three

Less than one in three British TV viewers support the TV licence fee in its current format.

Those are the findings of survey recently conducted by communications price comparison website, Cable.co.uk.

The website asked 2,000 viewers from across the UK for their opinions on the TV licence, which is used almost exclusively to fund the broadcasting of the BBC.

More than 54% of respondents said that the cost of the TV licence was too much, compared to less than 5% that said they would willingly pay more.

Fewer than one-in-three (32.6%) respondents said that they supported the TV licence fee as it stands, with 47% opposed and 20% unsure.

These latest survey findings come less than a week after the BBC refused to provide the TV Licensing Blog with the results and methodology of every poll it has conducted on the subject of the TV licence fee over the last 3 years.

It is notable that BBC poll findings are always very favourable towards to continuation of the TV licence fee, whereas those published by independent parties often paint a very different picture.

We reasoned, therefore, that the BBC is probably commissioning far more polls than it actually publishes the results of. Any polls that don't agree with the BBC's pro-TV licence standpoint are filed away and conveniently forgotten about.

Hopefully one of our journalist friends might like to delve a little deeper to get to the truth of the matter.

We are grateful to friends at TV Licence Resistance forums for bringing this story to our attention.
